What does permaculture mean and why is it so important today? How can I apply permaculture in my garden?

Have you ever wondered how you can help the Earth and actively do something about climate change? Do you often ask yourself how you can regenerate the soil and support nature in your environment? Permaculture offers solutions to exactly these questions. But why is it especially important today? In this workshop, you will learn what distinguishes permaculture from conventional agricultural methods and how you can apply its principles in your daily life and garden – no matter how big your garden is. Permaculture can be applied to any space, even small balconies or urban gardens. You don’t need to own a large plot of land to benefit from the advantages of permaculture.

Planning and Designing a Permaculture Garden

In this workshop, participants will learn how to plan and design a permaculture garden for sustainable gardening. We will cover both the theoretical basics and practical exercises. We will present different models of permaculture vegetable gardens and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of various plant and cultivation methods.

The focus will be on annual plants that are particularly well-suited for beginners in permaculture. We will cover the key steps: from selecting the right plants to the practical aspects of starting – how to set up and maintain the garden. In a later workshop (on May 4th), we will focus on perennial plants.

By the end of the workshop, participants will know how to create, maintain, and manage their own permaculture garden.

Perennials in a Permaculture Garden

In this workshop, we will primarily focus on acquiring perennial plants and show you examples for your garden. We will also explain why perennial plants are so important for your vegetable garden. Perennial plants contribute to soil stability as they have roots year-round and promote soil life. They require less maintenance and can be harvested for many years, supporting the sustainable use of your garden.

How do I design my permaculture vegetable garden?

In this workshop, I will show you how to create your own permaculture vegetable garden. We will look at concrete examples from my own garden to understand how you can practically apply the principles of permaculture. You will learn which permaculture plants work particularly well together and which plants are especially suitable for permaculture. My garden will also demonstrate the important role animals play in the system and how they help naturally maintain and regenerate the soil – just like certain plants.
Additionally, you will learn how to promote biodiversity with simple methods, optimize water management, and achieve a sustainable harvest.
Through practical examples, you will see how to create a self-sufficient and low-maintenance system in your own garden – ideal for benefiting from a healthy and sustainable harvest in the long term.
